Originally, Melaka bonded with the then somewhat cowardly Croagunk who would become known as Lurks to have someone to lead her out of the marshlands. Since then, Lurks has relied on his trainer to help him become tougher and to give him greater purpose. He's become Melaka's stalwart knight, always standing at attention and ready to do what's asked of him, even if he might be scared by it. Perhaps because of his true disposition, he tends to awkwardly laugh when he's too tense and be a tad stoic.

Pre-4/15 Serious by the standards of its species, Lurks was a pokemon Melaka encountered during her first patrol in the week following the second expedition to the mountains. Cowardly by her standards, Lurks has been watching her for some time until Sneak identified where her was. Lurks was bonded with because of Melaka needing someone to help her get out of the swamp once she got lost. He liked the idea of the connection that Sneak and her seemed to have and wanted to emulate that. As of yet, the bond is not close, but it does remain on his mind. Lurks lives in the Pokemon Habitat mostly to remain hydrated, but is regularly with Melaka around town in Union.	Pre-6/7 Melaka's initial impression of Lurks was that he was a coward. When she encountered the frog in the wild, he had followed her for a long while until Sneak pointed out to Melaka that he was there. Melaka was lost in the swamp at the time, and chased him down to force him to lead them all back out. He bonded with her then, wanting to understand what had caused Sneak and her to have such a positive connection. Since then, Lurks has become Melaka's stoic knight. He's trained as hard as the rest of her team (perhaps harder, if you discount Slugger), and has become one of the ones Melaka relies on the most for physical challenges - he is, for example, her go-to guard for the babies when they need someone to guard them. Despite this, he still has not quite conquered his initial wariness bordering on cowardice. When he feels wary or awkward, Lurks will tend to laugh, and it's an obvious tell that left to his own circumstances, he would have fled. Nothing has yet pushed him far enough to abandon the posts Melaka puts him on though. Among the rest of the team, Lurks quiet and serious nature really annoys Brownie and Willow, albeit in different ways (obviously, Brownie's way is the violent one, as evidenced by how many times the monkey has challenged the frog to a duel). Lurks and Sneak share a special relationship, often chatting it up when nothing else is going on and generally enjoying each other's company. He is also the one on the team closest to Shimmer, because he is the only one of the team who is amphibious (and none of them are aquatic).	Pre-9/6 Melaka first encountered Lurks when she was exploring the swampland around Union. She became quite lost and, after taking note that someone had been following her from a distance, Melaka cornered and eventually bonded with the somewhat cowardly but deeply serious Croagunk. Lurks then took them out of the swamp, eager to bond with Melaka and achieve the same level of obvious comfort that she and Sneak visibly shared at the time - and since then, Lurks has become arguably Melaka's most diligent and most loyal pokémon. Lurks is a quiet pokémon, arguably serious to a fault and with a strong sense of duty which he tries to hold onto to overcome his natural hesitation to enter dangerous situations. The frog considers himself something of a coward at heart, and while when they met Melaka might have agreed, this is far from the case now. Over time, his diligence and increasing strength led to him becoming Melaka's "knight" and enforcer - the pokémon who could make sure the others were in light and protected, as well as the one she could count on to defend her allies in a stressful situation where her and some of the others needed to focus on the front lines. Lurks leapt into these expectations with open arms, not wanting to disappoint his Trainer. While he is often quiet and serious, when he feels awkward or afraid, he has a tendency to laugh. Even he isn't really sure if it's just a nervous tick born out of his Anticipation ability or to lighten the mood. While there are some members of Melaka's cadre who had bad things to say about Lurks - chiefly those who are rubbed the wrong way by his diligent demeanor like Brownie or Willow - none of them hold him in any special contempt. In truth, almost all of them have been helped or protected - especially in the case of the babies - at some point or another and while some of them might resent either that fact or his quiet personality, none of them dislike <i>him</i>. Of special note is Sneak and Slugger, who together make up a "trinity" of Melaka's most relied upon pokémon, and both of which have a decent rapport with the frog. Since Shimmer joined the team, Lurks moved out of the area of the habitat he had been in before and moved into the water section, so as to better bond with his new compatriot. Because of that, the two of them are much closer than Shimmer is to anyone else on the team, possibly including Melaka. During the journey to Caldera, Lurks (due to his drying out) was not of much use in the Western Desert, and thus spent most of his time with Shimmer. The two played and worked hard, resulting in the both of them having evolved when Melaka made it home to Union - a very pleasant surprise.
Pre-1/28 <ul><li>Melaka first encountered Lurks when she was lost in the Marshlands - he was cowardly and hiding, but keeping a close eye on her and Sneak. Melaka bonded with him once she discovered him in order to find her way out of the swamp. He's remained with her since.</li> <li>While still somewhat timid at heart, Lurks has dedicated himself to being Melaka's most loyal knight in a sense - he's almost always beside her or beside whomever he's assigned to guard, lurking a few feet behind them and keeping close watch. He's arguably the one she depends on the most.</li> <li>Lurks has a decent relationship with most of the rest of the team, and a special one with long standing staples like Sneak and Slugger. Of special note is his relationship with Shimmer: as the only other semi-aquatic member of the team, he spends a great deal of time with her and they both evolved together.</li> <li>Lurks has a tendency to laugh awkwardly when he's feeling overwhelmed or when his Anticipation activates. The layout of the Toxicroak face means that he often looks like he's smiling, but by the standards of the frogs, he's actually rather stoic a lot of the time.</li> <li>He recently had a falling out of sorts with Willow, when he pointed out that she might not belong at the Moss Rock at all because her poison side seems stronger than her grass side. While Willow's long since over that, Lurks is convinced she still resents him, and thus avoids her.
