[She's... a little tense, but she's not unwilling to go for it.]

[And she closes the book to up up to Buffy's house]

[ i'll trust you. it draws a sharp breath from her lungs. isolated although that trust may be, it stabs her right where it hurts. she wants it, really. she wants melaka to trust her. craves it. like she craves the respect and trust of her girls back home.

she'll be waiting on the front porch. ]

[and... soon enough, she's there. Bag over her shoulder, ready for whatever, she figures. And when she's there, she notices... there's Summers, waiting for her. She nods, settling in front of her and folding her arms]

[ buffy stands when she sees melaka approach. ]

Settling in okay? [ smalltalk, but her tone is brusque. she wants to get it over with. ]

[Harth's here now. Man, she should probably tell Buffy, right]

Melaka.

[ buffy takes a deep breath. just...just jump in. ] A man told you something, Melaka. And maybe what he said was true but he didn't tell you the whole story.

Summers... Way I see it, I've talked with a gag of people here, and any of 'em could've been spinning me.

[But she suspects, this might have to do with Angel. She had neglected to mention lurks here before]

Ja-- [ she frowns. tightens her arms across her chest. ] Captain Jack Sparrow set you after a vampire named Angel. Angel's...he's not like other vamps.

[She shifts, uncomfortable. Soul. A soul.]

...He doesn't drink human, for one thing. For another? He's on the same side we are. [ for the most part. ]

[A bit harsher. Tell her about the soul. The soul, dammit]

Melaka. Did you ever read, in your books, about a vampire named Angelus?

Same...same vampire. Different man. [ that is how buffy sees it. perhaps it's a flawed perspective but...but it's too late to change it now. ]

Angelus got himself cursed with a soul and now he's -- well? He's with the good fight. And the good fight's lucky to have him.

Soul - tell me more about the soul. How's it work?

Well...you know the first part, right? Vamp attack. Suckfest, suckfest, suckfest. The soul takes flight and the demon sets up shop. Well? Angel got his back. And he feels it. Guilt, conscience, all of it.

[She considers a moment. But... when that's over, she finally concludes she needs to ask. He tone probably betrays how hopeful she is]

How's this curse go?

[ she eyes that hope a little...confused? ]

Gypsy in origin. I...I don't know it. I've never worked it. I know a girl who has -- v-very successfully, I might add. But she hasn't been here in a while.

[ giles, she thought, would know it. ]
