Well...you know the first part, right? Vamp attack. Suckfest, suckfest, suckfest. The soul takes flight and the demon sets up shop. Well? Angel got his back. And he feels it. Guilt, conscience, all of it.

[She considers a moment. But... when that's over, she finally concludes she needs to ask. He tone probably betrays how hopeful she is]

How's this curse go?

[ she eyes that hope a little...confused? ]

Gypsy in origin. I...I don't know it. I've never worked it. I know a girl who has -- v-very successfully, I might add. But she hasn't been here in a while.

[ giles, she thought, would know it. ]

It can be broken. The curse. It's -- it's been broken before. And the Shifts in this place are pretty brutal, too. I've seen one take his soul before.

[ a beat. ] If that happens? I'm gonna want your help but -- but the protocol is still a non-dust. I've had a cage built. Shifts wear off and we can't risk a death cost that leaves him soulless for longer.

I've fought beside him. Whatever Jack Sparrow told you is...probably true. But he left out the important parts. Angel's good. And you don't just have to take my word for it. Go and talk to him. You'll see it for yourself.

A Slayer. [ a beat. ] Don't get me wrong. I know what it's like -- to be chomping at the bit for a good slay. It's in our systems, Melaka. I wouldn't blame you for wanting to.

No, don't get me wrong. 'Fore I'm a Slayer, I'm a warrens gal, and I'm not one to take a hit, even for the good Captain, even on a lurk. 'Ticularly if I'm outta my scene.

[ ordinarily she might retort that there is nothing above being a slayer but -- ah, the good captain. the allusion quietens her. ]

Still, like I said. Wouldn't blame you if you would. God -- I haven't dusted a thing in...[ she trails off to try and do the math since dusting andrew. no. not a nice memory. ]
