8th Dusting

[Voice / Action]

[You know she almost, almost signed on for that one mission. A guard, surviving, she knew she could handle it. But then when she saw that "desert" thing. she has no idea what a desert is, so today she is at the library researching that, mostly because she really doesn't have much better to do today. She is clearly in a better mood though- all her earrings are in place (one of them she even thinks might be gold) and she she has a shiny nose stud in place. But... as she learns more and looks into these things more-

..Jesu.

She's gotten over being afraid of the sun (somewhat) in Luceti, mostly because of how dreary winter is, but that desert that... she flips open her journal]

Hey, Luceti. Talk to me 'bout the sun. Some of you got tales for it, right? Gotta.

[Feel free to answer her or see her in the library]

[Let's say after her posts. Timing orz]

As far as mythology goes, there are a variety of deities that represent the sun. The Greeks had Apollo, the Olympian god, and the Titan god, Helios. The Egyptians had Ra, the Japanese had Amaterasu, the sun goddess. Those are probably some of the most well known ones.

Was he? [She laughs quietly, knowing which Helios Giles was talking about, but it's funny all the same.] Ah, yes, I see his comments.

We have a friend named Helios. An amusing coincidence. But back on the topic of gods. in some versions, Helios and Apollo have become almost identical. Driving a chariot across the sky to raise the sun and all.

[Timelines. sob.]

Time, details getting lost or confused. The power writing can have when it's all you have to look back on. But if I remember correctly, Helios is the one generally associated with riding his chariot across the sky.

History is an interesting thing. Stories of the people that came before us.

But back to the sun. Scientifically speaking and relating directly to Earth, it's a star located at the center of the Solar System. The sun provides sunlight, a primary source of energy living creatures need in order to live, whether it's directly or indirectly.

Granted, things might be different across different worlds, but that seems to be the standard? Either way, plants need sunlight to survive, and plants produce oxygen as well as being a major food source.

On the other hand, if there's too much sun and not enough water, you can get droughts. Water sources drying out, crops dying, famine. Prolonged exposure to sun can also result in sunburns.

Ultraviolet rays, the downside of the sun. Skin burns if it's overexposed to UV rays. But there's stuff you can put on for protection. Sunblock, keeping covered, not being in the sun for too long.

Depends how hot it is and how fair your skin is. Paler people tend to burn faster. That's why you're supposed to put on sunblock if you'll be out in the sun for more than a few hours.

Pretty much. Companies have gotten better at improving the formula and everything so they last longer and some are waterproof and all. Still a good idea to try to stay in the shade or out of the sun, but if you had to be outside for a long period of time, I'd go with sunblock and sunglasses to protect your eyes.

Not really. It's a pretty common thing where I'm from. I've seen it here too, during the summer.
