8th Dusting

[Voice / Action]

[You know she almost, almost signed on for that one mission. A guard, surviving, she knew she could handle it. But then when she saw that "desert" thing. she has no idea what a desert is, so today she is at the library researching that, mostly because she really doesn't have much better to do today. She is clearly in a better mood though- all her earrings are in place (one of them she even thinks might be gold) and she she has a shiny nose stud in place. But... as she learns more and looks into these things more-

..Jesu.

She's gotten over being afraid of the sun (somewhat) in Luceti, mostly because of how dreary winter is, but that desert that... she flips open her journal]

Hey, Luceti. Talk to me 'bout the sun. Some of you got tales for it, right? Gotta.

[Feel free to answer her or see her in the library]

...why the sun of all things?
hisdarkmark: (I suppose you caught on)

Unfortunately the sun in my world is rather boring. It heats the world, it lightens the day, etcetera, etcetera. Now in terms of mythology, it's a whole different story. But I'm sure you're aware.

What is everyone else telling you about? Wouldn't want to repeat myself.

In that case, you've already heard most of what I'd have to say. How unfortunate.

Like what, the fact that everyone's missing the scientific facts about the sun?
hisdarkmark: (I'm a proud person)

In general, the sun is used to warm the planets. Depending on how close each planet is to the sun depends on how life can be supported. On Earth, obviously, life can be supported without all of us burning to a crisp or freezing to death.

The fascinating thing about the sun is while it can provide life, it can also provide death. It kills organisms if they're exposed to the sun for too long, and it can also cause one to go blind if they stare too long.

The sun itself is actually a star, hence why there are many legends surrounding it. Just like all of the constellations, the sun is surrounded by Greek myth. That's why there's the legend of Helios and the sun chariot. Not to be confused with Apollo who was most associated with light...but anyway.

All of the planets rotate around the sun, which is what causes the night and day. Since the planets are also spinning, only one side of the earth faces the sun at a time. It's been in existence for billions of years.

That's the most boring textbook answer one can offer. I prefer the Greek version personally, but you can't ignore fact.

Like I said, it fries organisms, especially if they get too warm or if they're too close to the sun. There's another myth about a boy named Icarus. Icarus was the son of Daedalus, who was a craftsman. Daedalus created two sets of wings made of feathers and wax that allowed a person to fly, unlike our useless appendages. Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, but like an absolute idiot, Icarus did anyway. His wings melted and he plummeted to his death.

That's just one example.

Precisely that. Is it really that surprising? Think about the fact that the sun's used to warm the entire planet of Earth and support all of the human life on it. That's billions of people.

...wait, wait, wait. What function does it have in your world?
hisdarkmark: (I'm hollow inside)

Possibly. Are you a zombie?
hisdarkmark: (I'm not happy with this turn of events)

Then explain how you could possibly be born dead.

Ah. [Okay, that made more sense, but.] Aren't you included in the I?
