Think of pirates as boat-based thieves. Only slightly more romanticized and possibly less clean. But I've gone a very long ways to introducing Jack to the magic of modern hygiene.

Familiar? Y-yeah. [ buffy suspects it's that strange tie between the chosen; not necessarily a mystical one but a social one. the heady amount of responsibility and the power that crackled in their muscles, undeniable.

and she doesn't really know why she says what she says next -- it just fits. buffy once gave a whole generation of girls the chance to never be alone, so: ] So long as I'm still here, Melaka? You won't be alone. In it together. Yeah?

[ and she holds out a fist -- bump knuckles? ]

[You won't be alone. It's what she thought when she found the Diaries and therefore a history. But this... is on an entirely different level. This is a woman who can understand her life to some extent. That's... impressive. That's amazing]

...Yeah. Yeah, he did. [...] Some old guy named Giles.

[ ...the colour drains entirely from buffy's face. her body stiffens. hell -- she even jumps up to her feet. ]

Giles? Is he okay? He never...[ awkwardly, buffy realizes that giles never contacted her. does that mean that it wasn't so bad? or that it was worse? or was she purposefully kept out of the loop? ]

When I left I'd gotten him all bandaged up and offered to help 'em get up some stairs. Said he had a friend he could call to do that though, so I-

[Even if, as it turns out, that's exactly what happened]

N-no. It's not your fault. None of us expected another vamp to show, I don't think. Besides Angel, it's been so long...[ spike, really. but he'd been soulled as well. the last genuine problem vamp had been drusilla. and she had left so very long ago. ]

If he had someone to look after him then he's gotta be fine. And I haven't heard anything otherwise...

[ still. giles. giles who she can't ever let die ever again. ]

...I've seen him get up from worse. [ besides -- she and giles are all kinds of uncertain. would it be too over-bearing, she wonders? does it even matter? ] But y-yeah. Consider him penciled in to my checking agenda.
